Before the martial arts consisted of its myriad of fighting styles, it was medicinal. Monks were falling asleep while meditating and adopted long, sweeping movements from migrants in order to maintain health and elongate their meditation sessions. Those movements eventually turned into Kung Fu, which spawned the perennial and omnipresent pastime that we participate in today by way of our Kempo practice.

If you have been hesitant to start a new activity because you are overweight, have a speech impediment, motor control challenges, a learning disability or any other impediment dissuading you from taking that step in your life, this is probably the community for you.

Our cohesion depends on a willingness to both be vulnerable and to allow space for other’s vulnerability. We value authenticity not as a catchy new concept in popular culture, but as the cornerstone of our vibrance. Your willingness to be seen allows for ours.

Every student learns our white-to-black belt Shaolin Kempo curriculum, which has been passed down through generations of Shaolin Kempo Grandmasters and Masters, curated by and performed for Shaolin Monks, and fine-tailored by our own head instructor to emphasize practical street self-defense.

While we pride ourselves on our easygoing nature, we implement a serious tone when appropriate as we are teaching self-defense, and our workouts are intense. Our intention is to keep you engaged, happy and sweating, while ingratiating technique, strength, agility and a mentality that will benefit you in the street.

Whether you’re looking to burn calories, tone muscle, refine coordination and agility, punch something or act on your curiosity in the martial arts…this is a good place for you.
